LIVE REVIEW: Eddie Trunks 40th Year in Broadcasting Celebration

House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. Las Vegas NV. 12th November 2023

This was a spectacular concert that might go down in history for me as the top 10 shows I’ve ever seen. The most exciting part about it was the fact that I didn’t know who was playing. I knew Sammy Hagar with Michael Anthony from Van Halen were the main performers for this. But that’s about all I knew. I came to find out that all the money raised at this event all went to a charity for Cancer Research in the name of Ronnie James Dio.

At least from my perspective that was exciting because it was two or three songs by a band or artist. Then there was a set change where they moved the drums around or brought in different instruments and pedals. Then a new group of musicians would emerge. Geezer Butler and Mike Portnoy started off the evening performing a couple of Black Sabbath songs. They were joined by Jay Buchanan of rival sons and Corey Taylor of Slipknot.

After that it was a three and 1/2 hour concert that included songs from Alice Cooper, Ace Frehley, REO Speedwagon, Skid Row, Ratt, Kiss, Van Halen and so many other amazing artists. All of the musicians were so incredibly talented they played these songs flawlessly even though many of them had very little time to prepare and rehearse. A lot we’re flying in from all different parts of the country to celebrate with Eddie. It was so cool in fact I wish there was a way they could put it out on tour.

I know they were filming the event and I’m hoping they will eventually put out a DVD or Blu-ray so that you can be witness to one of the most incredible concerts I’ve ever seen. The photos hopefully will give you a little bit of a taste of what it was like to be there that night for you
