Saturday November 7th was the third instalment of all ages gig, Mosh In a Sanatorium (MIAS), this time at YMCA HQ Leederville and boasting a sold out show. MIAS iii opened with Electric State, progressing through the afternoon from 4pm – 10pm with Psytopia, Dying Kings, Aviscerus, Our Demise and finishing the show Wrath of Fenrir. This great All Ages initiative was founded by Ersh On, his wife Tamara takes the time to explore Ersh’s journey to creating MIAS.

Founder of JamArt Sounde Lounge, Ersh, was part of the Perth metal scene in a band called Grimoire throughout the nineties. From around 12 years old Ersh was mostly on the streets where he would find metal heads to be the most caring, most helpful kids around.

‘’Back then the Metal itself became home and metal heads became my True family’’

About 25 years later, in 2019, Eugene Rose the drummer of Grimoire took Ersh to an Obituary gig at the Badlands Bar

‘’It was really like a family reunion”.

From there Ersh went on to find the 18+ metals scene, in bars and pubs etc, were on the rise again.

‘’I discovered the great efforts of Dysie Dyson’s Hornography Perth Metal Club, Andrew’s The Rockpit and the endless efforts Kelvin Edward Whitwell were behind most of the current metal uprising. Seeing As Light Decays and Cage The Hate at the Swan Basement 2019 really breathed the life of metal back into me”.

Ersh felt there was still a void that needed to be filled immediately and that is when he decided to start the JamArt Monthly All ages events. Dedicated to the younger metal heads.

‘’The all ages gigs in the 90s were self-promoted with little to no support but they were still the greatest times I ever had’’.

Now in 2020 Ersh felt the youngsters needed a stage so he decided to make this happen at any cost and fully self-funded.

“The concept is basically to bring youngers away from the mainstream manipulations to another world with a different perspective, and to provide the younger musicians a platform where they can be discovered and given a chance to fly. No contracts, no boundaries, only full support, and clean advice deep from my heart, just like you would give your own family’’

Ersh realized Unity was a must for success, so he approached Kelvin, Dyson and Andrew to support him, even if it was just moral support.

“I realise Kelvin, Dyson and Andrew are all busy guys, but they still gave their much-appreciated support and I believe they all will continue to do so. This is Metal Unity at its finest’’.

‘’I believe if you start with a clean heart people will sense it and they will want to be a part of it. The fruits of all this so far are a great young band called Our Demise. After only 2 appearances, both of which on the Jamart Sound Lounge Stage, have now been approached by 2 other major event managers to perform on their stages. This is exactly what we want to achieve, and I could not be happier. Here’s to theirs and many other young bands success’’.
