Matty T Wall announces WA shows

Matty T Wall

WA blues shapeshifter Matty T Wall is set to continue his 2019 live assault of WA stages, with a full schedule of gigs over autumn.

It comes as overseas acclaim continues to pour in. Wall featured on the cover of the December/January issue of Blues & Co, France’s national blues magazine, and his song, Walk Out The Door, was recently nominated in the International Song Competition’s ‘Blues Category’, and is now charting in the Netherlands. This marks the fifth time Wall has hit the Dutch Top 100, joining previous chartbusters Sidewinder, Broken Heart Tattoo, Burnin’ Up Burnin’ Down and This Is Real, the latter trio from his debut album, 2016’s Blue Skies.

Wall is currently working on a ‘guitar-jam’ project featuring guests such as Eric Gales, Dave Hole, Kid Ramos and Kirk Fletcher soloing over selections from the blues songbook. He’s also assumed the mantle of Australian Blues Columnist for UK magazine, Blues Matters.

With his cracking band (Stephen Walker on bass with drummer Ric Whittle) Wall brings it, live and kicking, to a newly announced run of shows, including a Friday residency in May at Clancy’s Fish Pub Fremantle, kicking off on May 10.

“We’ve got a really pumping live show at the moment,” he says, proudly. “The band is locked in, really tightly. It’s really punching well. We’ve got about five hours’ worth of material to play, so we’re going to be able to switch up songs here and there. I really like extending songs as well, especially the instrumental songs, so you’ll see a lot of improvisation happening and from there we’ll make different experiences.

“We’ll be looking at recording these gigs as well, so perhaps we’ll get a release out. We’ll see how we go there.”
