Melbourne’s Drown This City plays Electronica swamped Metalcore with female vocals. Now if Metalcore is your thing then the novelty of a female Metalcore vocalist might just peak your interest but in truth like all genres it’s really still all about the songs.
The five tracks on this EP are pretty basic Metalcore fare but with the heavy emphasis on electronics/synths. Sadly the first thing that jumps out at you about the release is how badly the production falls down. The second thing is how little guitar makes the mix, and the third how all the electronica sounds pretty much the same. That I guess is the real shame of the EP – production aside the real lack of variety is a huge issue.
The saving grace is second track ‘The Edge’ which in truth kept me listening and shows that the band does have the ability to create interesting work. Vocals too are pretty cool, but in truth this one didn’t really grab me aside from ‘The Edge’ and maybe final cut ‘Empire’.
