BEERS, CHEERS & TEARS AS BOWLING FOR SOUP WAVE GOODBYE
Bitter sweet will sum up the announcement that this autumn’s BOWLING FOR SOUP shows will be their ‘Goodbye’ to the country that, for well over a decade, has been their adopted home. The BOWLING FOR SOUP BIDS FAREWELL TOUR will be their final shows on UK soil, but don’t for a second think you’re getting rid of them that easily!
BFS frontman Jaret Reddick is quick to assure fans that this is not the end. “We’re all excited about the future and what’s next. Honestly, it opens up the whole world for us! If you’re a fan of Bowling For Soup, this really is better news than it seems. You may not be seeing us in person as much, but you’re definitely gonna have more new songs.”
With almost twenty years as a band, the past fifteen constantly on tour, life on the road has begun to hit hard on the Texan Power Pop maestros, who will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary next summer.
“The UK has given this band everything, so I’m being honest about our reasons. We still love being Bowling For Soup but touring really does begin to take its toll on both you and your family after a while.” reveals Reddick. “We want to go out on top! We have seen too many bands on our level run it all into the ground. I can't do that to BFS, to my friends, or to the fans.” he continues truthfully.
Those fans have been the life blood to the band, whose infectious radio friendly hits ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’, ‘1985’ and ‘High School Never Ends’ have become the benchmark for rock music video channels. Even in a climate when many bands struggled in an unpredictable music industry, Bowling For Soup effortlessly toured and recorded with success thanks to a loyal fanbase who continue to support them year after year - this tour is all about them.
“We want this final tour to be a celebration of what we’ve achieved in the UK for the past thirteen years. There’s no way I would have believed we’d have been able to do this for so long. This band, and everything we’ve accomplished, is so important to us, that we never wanna look back on it and think we took it too far.”, Jaret admits.
With a brand new, fan funded album set for release in September; this will be just the start of a whole host of Bowling For Soup productivity. Next year the band aim to release a re-recorded Greatest Hits along with an album of covers to celebrate their landmark 20th Anniversary in June 2014.
Unlike previous BFS tours there will only be one opening band, to be announced in late April, so fans can expect the biggest Bowling For Soup live set EVER! Alongside the bands hit filled catalogue they promise a whole host of songs not heard for sometime. If there was ever a Rock Show not to miss, this is the one!
Reddick finds it easy to sum up what the most important thing he’s taken from a career of performing in the UK “It’s the easiest answer and the most truthful thing. I know for a fact that every single person who comes to our show leaves with a smile on their face that lasts two or three weeks. Knowing we’ve created that many memories, for both the fans and for ourselves, is just the best feeling in the world.”

KOKO, Camden, June 13th
Support from Patent Pending and Blacklist Royals
Tuesday 9th April - Lit announce their long-awaited return to the UK for a special, one-off headline gig in Camden, London. The platinum-selling Orange County rock band will play KOKO on Thursday, June 13th with support from Patent Pending and Blacklist Royals. The band then head to Donington Park to play Download Festival on June 15th.
Lit's new single "The Broken" is released in the UK on May 13th (video link below). Taken from their recently released fifth studio album, the Butch Walker-produced "The View From The Bottom", the song has already been added to the playlists of both Kerrang Radio and Bloodstock Radio and is receiving regular plays on rock shows across the country.
Watch "The Broken" video here: http://youtu.be/PCEg52S5S20
"The View From The Bottom" comes a full eight years after the release of its selftitled predecessor and the band have endured more than their fair share of heartbreak in the intervening years, not least the Popoff brothers tragically losing their stepfather in a motorcycle collision with a drunk driver, an accident which also left their mother with serious injuries. This was followed by the untimely death of drummer and founding member Allen Shellenberger after a long and hard-fought battle with a brain tumour. Initially, it seemed unthinkable for the band to continue but original members Jeremy and A.Jay Popoff and bassist Kevin Baldes tentatively begin to rebuild, writing songs almost as a form of therapy and without the pressure of working towards a fixed release date.
They were helped by the addition of new drummer Nathan Walker, who was the natural choice to step behind the Lit drum-kit. A good friend of the band, he had served as drum tech for Shellenberger and filled-in for him at live shows during the later part of his career so brought with him a sense of continuity. The result is an album that confronts the band-members' grief whilst celebrating Shellenberger's life and heralds a new beginning for a band of brothers and best friends who are moving forward, united by an even stronger bond. It delivers a well-balanced mix of both introspective ballads and a fresh batch of hook-laden, pop-rock anthems that will sit perfectly alongside Lit's mega-hits, including the evergreen, Billboard Awardwinning classic "My Own Worst Enemy", when they bring their live show back to Britain this summer.
"Polished fare awash with slick harmonies, clean guitars, heavy drumbeats, giant hooks and an unadulterated wall of gleaming pop." - Rock Sound
"The wait was most definitely worth it as 'The View From the Bottom' is
certainly among their best work. Welcome back Lit." - uberrock.co.uk
"They've not skipped a beat, picking up where they left off." - Kerrang
After riding through a storm of triumph and tragedy, Lit return energetic, defiant and at the very top of their game. Their live sets at Koko and Download are certain to win over a whole new generation of UK fans that have only seen the band on heavy rotation on rock music channels. For the rest of us, we'll finally get the chance to relive why we all loved Lit so much the first time around.
"The View From The Bottom" is out now on Megaforce Records. "The Broken" is released on May 13th.

SAINT VITUS are the godfathers of American Doom Metal. A statement weighing as heavy as this band sounds. Nonetheless, this is simply the truth.

with special guests CATTLE DECAPITATION, KING PARROT and AVERSIONS CROWN
ON SALE NOW
+ + + + +
Hot on the heels of their nomination in the Best New Band category at the 2013 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, Western Sydney’s THY ART IS MURDER are proud to bring the hate home for their much anticipated headline tour in support of 2012's boundary smashing full length, Hate.
Since the October release of Hate through Halfcut and its top 40 ARIA chart debut, THY ART IS MURDER have gone from strength to strength; signing to worldwide metal juggernaut Nuclear Blast to spread Hate worldwide and completing headline runs of Europe, the UK and New Zealand. This June, THY ART IS MURDER will be joined by San Diego’s CATTLE DECAPITATION and Aussies KING PARROT and AVERSIONS CROWN for nine dates across the country.
CATTLE DECAPITATION have earned a reputation for being one of the most controversial extreme metal acts of recent years, and this is a reputation the San Diegan’s live up to. Their boundary-pushing music is designed to turn heads and snap necks, and nowhere is this more evident than on their seventh album Monolith Of Inhumanity or in the bizarre and twisted video for their track ‘Forced Gender Reassignment’ (which you can see here). Now, fans can see CATTLE DECAPITATION when they hit Australia for the first time.
KING PARROT is the name on the tip of everyone’s tongue in the Australian metal scene with their debut album Bite Your Head Off kicking some serious arse. The record captures the raw intensity of their live show; defying genres with a cross-section assault on thrash, grind, punk and hardcore. This tour will be the opportunity to see KING PARROT in their natural environment – delivering a brutal yet entertaining live set.
Brisbane six-piece AVERSIONS CROWN have solidified their position as one of Australia’s most reputable up-and-coming heavy bands. Following the release of their debut Servitude in 2011, the band have worked tirelessly, building a solid fan base nationally, culminating in the release of a full-length slated for later in 2013. |
