SAINT VITUS' Lillie: F-65

Updated news and tour information will be made available via ACTION! PR online (website / facebook / twitter).

SAINT VITUS is an American doom metal band from Los Angeles. The quartet consists of founding members Dave Chandler (guitarist) and Mark Adams (bass) alongside singer Scott "Wino" Weinrich and drummer Henry Vasquez. SAINT VITUS has been regarded and credited as one of the first bands of the doom metal genre, along with Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble and Candlemass. The band formed in 1978 under the name Tyrant, with Scott Reagers (vocals), Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass) and Armando Acosta (drums). After recording two demos, the band changed their name to SAINT VITUS in 1979 after the song "St. Vitus' Dance" by Black Sabbath. The group's main influences were Black Sabbath and Black Flag, the latter of which SAINT VITUS toured with during the 1980s. Greg Ginn of Black Flag would also sign SAINT VITUS to his label, SST Records, which eventually released four LPs and two EPs by the band including the now classic LPs "Saint Vitus" (1984), "Hallow's Victim" (1985) and "Born Too Late" (1986). In 1986, Weinrich replaced Reagers; this lineup proved to be the band's longest-lasting, and recorded three albums, "Born Too Late" (1986), "Mournful Cries" (1988) and "V" (1990). In 2008 it was announced that SAINT VITUS were reuniting for a tour and the band would headline at the 2009 Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. SAINT VITUS' new album, entitled "Lillie: F-65", was released on April 27, 2012.

"In Saint Vitus, there is an eternity of despair, bottomless boredom and muddy guitar fuzz that, to this day, has never been duplicated. Saint Vitus unleashes the slow-mo headbang of a thousand metalheads"

"Saint Vitus are arguably the single most important and influential band in American doom"

"Chandler's prowess as an axeman cannot be given enough emphasis: his writhing, twisted, screaming solos, and devilishly heavy riffs funnel blood and mercury into Saint Vitus' heart, as Wino's pipes lay down the soul."

"During more than 30 years together, St. Vitus played by a single rule, a rule many heavy rock and metal bands eventually forget -- focus simply on being the best at being yourself. Though their formula has changed scant little over the past three decades, it has lost little of its potency."
