GASOLINE INC – self titled EP

2009

If I didn’t know better I’d assume Gasoline Inc had already half conquered planet rock, such is the confidence and maturity of their self titled debut EP.

Opening track ‘Superstar’ is a world beater, coming at you somewhere in between INXS and Tesla, and beating its chest like a band who know their time has come, but mercifully without the unsufferable arrogance that sometimes accompanies such confidence. This track was even picked up by 2 national TV stations to accompany their broadcast of the 2009 AFL grand final game, so that alone is testament to it’s power and drive.

Despite not having a lot of gigs under their belt, the Gasoline Inc boys know how to construct a great tune, and by the time you get to sleazy anthem ‘Dymamite’, you will feel like you’re in a sweaty club, chanting along with the rest of the crowd to the 80s metal-tinged “woah oh oh”s and “hey yeah yeah”s.

Closing track ‘Nicotine + Love’ is one of my favourite songs of 2009, pulsing and throbbing with nightclub sleaze and the glow of a hundred morning afters.

Engineered and mixed by Jason Millar at Millapede Projects in the boys’ home town of Fremantle, Western Australia, the sound is fulsome and meaty, enveloping the listener in its stadium-friendly warmth.

If Gasoline Inc have the cojones to stick with this and the luck to score a few good breaks, then on the strength of this EP they could be jetting around the world’s biggest stages sooner rather than later.
