BUCKCHERRY
All Night Long

After the lacklustre “Black Butterfly last year, Buckcherry have bounced back performing to their strengths with “All Night Long”. Full of sleazy riffs propelling songs to fuck strippers and get wired up on coke to, “All Night Long” kicks off with the best party anthem this side of ‘Crazy Bitch’ in the title track.

Following the well trodden path of two balls-out rockers, then a ballad, ‘These Things’ at track 3 sees tattooed dirtbag Josh Todd lamenting his latest swathe of relationship problems, before getting back down to the business of being hard rock’s resident microtechnician of sleaze throughout paens to the darkside as on ‘Recovery’ and ‘Never Say Never’, through to another ballad ‘Bliss’ and closing tirade about the apathy of our generation ‘Dead’.

You’ll likely already know whether you dig Buckcherry or not – and for most that hinges upon whether you dig Todd’s nasally voice – he was famously dismissed by Slash from early Velvet Revolver rehearsals when the top hated cat realised he just didn’t like his voice! Sure it can get mildly irritating, but when he locks in with partner in crime Keith Nelson’s guitars, it really works well.

It’s hard to see where Buckcherry can go artistically from here – they tried to branch out on “Black Butterfly” and it didn’t work for them, hence the return to “15”s sleaze-anthem territory. It’s unlikely they’ve run their course though, so let’s hope they come up with some new spice to season the mix for album number 5!!
