Red Fang

After three years of vigorously touring the world, Red Fang re-emerge with their latest full-length album, Only Ghosts. Produced by the legendary Ross Robinson (At The Drive In, The Cure, Slipknot, and many more) and mixed by Joe Baressi (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Melvins), Only Ghosts consists of 10 new tracks of the band's signature, high-impact, hook-filled, hard rock. Red Fang prove once again they are top-notch songwriters who have mastered the heavy anthem without taking themselves too seriously. Only Ghosts is a rock album of incredible magnitude that demands to be played at maximum volume!

From the get-go it's signature Red Fang on opening track "Flies", that stoner rock n' roll sound with a nod to the classics of yesteryear in doom and heavy metal ala Black Sabbath & Motorhead. I never really know how to classify Red Fang, stoner rock never seemed to quite fit but the term rock n' roll which is really reserved more for 60's rock music, just sounds like the perfect term for the band. Regardless, Red Fang know how to rock out and they do it brilliantly. "Only Ghosts" is a continuation of where Red Fang left off on the last album "Whales And Leeches" with tracks like "Not For You" reminiscent of the awesome "Blood Like Cream".

There are a lot of psychedelic sounds coarsing through the album too including the instrumental interlude piece "Flames" which leads into the doomy track "No Air" which is kinda trippy at the same time. The hookiness of the songs is what grabs you the most though, "Cut It Short" takes a little Queens Of The Stone Age and bangs it out hard with a sharp main riff driving it. "Shadows" takes the cake for being the catchiest 'cool as fuck' song on the album. The slightly proggy tail end of the album jumps around a little and starts becoming a bit more psychedelic in nature, "The Smell Of Sound" is a little drawn out but still rocks and grooves nicely whereas "The Deep" has a few tempo changes that makes it stand out amongst all the songs here.

The frenetic "Living In Lye" is a cool ender as it fades out to close the album off and before you know it, it's done but it definitely leaves you wanting to hit the replay button again for more. "Only Ghosts" is another great album from Red Fang, they have yet to disappoint in the 4 albums on offer so far and no doubt fans will be sinking their teeth into this one easily.
