ACE FREHLEY
Astor Theatre - Perth, Australia
May 7th 2015
It's been a long time between visits to our shores for the Space Ace, last
here in February 2010 on the Anomaly tour he blew Fremantle away, and this
time there is an even better album to showcase in 'Space Invader' -
arguably his best record since that 1978 solo album. Kiss of course is
here later in the year and tonight you can't help but wonder what they
would be like if they still had his 'X-Factor' as part of their show.

Tonight at The Astor, a room with a great sound that is getting an
increasing number of Rock shows Ace is in fine form, still of course
rather 'loose' just as we want him to be, he brings a set that is markedly
different from his last visit.
Before the main act sets the stage alight though, both local supports -
Legs Electric and Psychonaut acquit themselves well with the partisan
crowd, both bands deserve to be there and hopefully take away a host of
new fans.
Come show-time though the crowd is more than ready and Ace is in great
form running through both early Kiss classic tracks, vintage solo material
including both tracks from that 1978 masterpiece and later Frehley's Comet
material and new songs from Space Invader, which fit in seamlessly.
Of course it's the vintage material that most are here for though, and
that comes both in the form of Ace's Kiss set-pieces like 'Rocket Ride'
and 'Shock Me' which includes a show-stopping solo replete with the usual
pyrotechnics; and Paul Stanley gems like 'King of the Night Time World'
and 'Love Gun' which of course feature memorable Ace solos. There's also
the Ace-penned 'Strange Ways' from Kiss' Hotter Than Hell but sadly not
perhaps his finest early Kiss moment 'Cold Gin'.
Backed on the night by a great band comprising the talents of Richie
Scarlett on guitar and Scott Coogan on drums, 2015 is looking like another
vintage year for Ace.
