WORK OF ART FRAMEWORK REVIEW 2014

WORK OF ART - FRAMEWORK

FRONTIERS RECORDS

SEPTEMBER 19 2014

Of all the Melodic Rock I’ve heard over the last few years, and there has been plenty of it, Work of Art sits there right towards the very top of the pile, and for a genre that produces so much, and so much quality, that really is saying something. And ‘Framework’ is quite simply magnificent.

To be perfectly honest like on their last release they got me with the first shot – ‘Time To Let You Go’ that opens things here is flawless Melodic Rock with the sort of sweet energy that few manage to master to such a degree. If you love the sort of music Harry Hess has put out over the last few years in various guises then this is its equal, and from me it’s hard to get higher praise than that.

Wherever you venture on ‘Framework’ the quality is just the same. From the simple uplifting glory of ‘How Will I Know’ to the passion of the sumptuous ‘Can’t Let Go’ they don’t put a single foot wrong. Add to those, classic moments such as ‘Over the Line’; ‘Natalie’ and ‘My Waking Dream; and you have a bonafide classic Melodic Rock album as good as anything you’ve heard in years.

Three albums in Work of Art has the Melodic world at their feet and deservedly so.  Melodic Rock may have its detractors but one listen to this just shows the life and passion the genre can create. This is better than the bands I loved back in the day like Giant and Honeymoon Suite, better than anything out there at the minute by a mile. It’s simply sumptuous and a band I have to see live as they make their way to the upper reaches of my bucket list.

Whether this will be my album of the year I’m not quite sure, but I’m almost certain this will still be the best Melodic Rock release of the year come December.
