VESPERIA AN OLDEN TALE REVIEW

VESPERIA - AN OLDEN TALE

INDEPENDENT

RELEASED 2013

These guys used to be a Black Metal band but over the last few years have reinvented themselves as a ‘Heroic Metal’ outfit with Folk Metal overtones, and based on ‘An Olden Tale’ they have done it to great effect.

If you are a fan of the genre and bands like Amon Amarth or any of their Viking Metal cohorts you’ll feel right at home with this. Vocally it’s on the dark side of the street (and may be a little growly for some, but for me it works) and musically the epic riffs and guitar really brings to mind bands like Ensifernum.

Standout tracks like “The Swordsman’ and ‘Huntress’ get you right into the mood for the feast and the hunt, while ‘Forsaken Shores’ adds weightier emotion to that feeling. Elsewhere if you are looking for a real standout the almost eight minute epic ‘To Times End We Ride’ really shows what this band is capable of.

Music to ride to Valhalla to…
