Stone Revival The Forgotten Suns Live Review 2014

STONE REVIVAL - THE FORGOTTEN SUNS... LIVE

SELF-RELEASED

18 APRIL 2014

It’s been a while since we heard from Stone Revival whose last outing 2012’s self-titled release hit the spot nicely if you like your heavy stoner blues with an alternative bent. Kicking off with the lead single from that album ‘Freezin’ isn’t a bad way to start either it still has all of that raw, ragged, edgy power of the studio version, yet somehow more menace ‘live’.

The dark ‘In a Simple Song’ smoulders by comparison before bursting through the miasma before breaking down into a helluva cool groove. ‘Slow River’ one of our favourite tracks of Stone Revival’s and ‘live’ it takes that feeling of proto-grunge and adds to it the real 70’s rock power that Pearl Jam understood so well in the early days.

‘Blue Eyed Blues’ and ‘It Rained Today’ that close out the album also manage to sound finer in the live arena than they did on that first album – and that in itself is a great feat for any band. If we have one slight regret here it’s that there is nothing new from Stone Revival – the live album simply collects the ‘best’ from their 2012 release. We’d have loved maybe just one song to whet the appetite for the next release.

As a live experience off the back of this release you would have to add ‘Stone Revival’ to the ‘must see’ list.
