STRIKER - CITY OF GOLD REVIEW 2014

STRIKER - CITY OF GOLD

NAPALM RECORDS

AUGUST 29 2014

There’s nothing remotely original about Striker’s new release ‘City of Gold’ but it’s a damn good Metal album from a Canadian band whose excellent twin guitar harmonies anchor an album of Speed Metal anthems, recalling bands of yesteryear like Exciter.  Here at The Rockpit we love it.

If you like fun and beer with your Metal then Striker is a band for you. This is good party Metal, and sonically it ticks all the old school boxes. It’s the stuff you need to just crank up the volume for so the neighbours can listen too!

Three albums in Striker has really come up with the goods: first track ‘Underground’ will have you – and it immediately falls into place – great riffs, driving drums and bass, and all capped with a really great vocal and for me that’s what sets this aside – a Metal band with a singer who sure can scream, but not only that he can really wail too!

Check out tracks like ‘Bad Decisions’; ‘All For One’ and ‘Rise Up’ and you’ll not only appreciate how good the songs are and how well the vocals sit in the mix , but also how amazingly fast the fingers of guitarist Chris Segger are! And for those who like it loud and fast don’t worry there’s no obligatory slowing of pace within a thousand miles!

And when you close with a track as good as the awesome ‘Taken By Time’ you just know you’ll be hitting the repeat!
