SONIC STATION - NEXT STOP

AVENUS OF ALLIES

MAY 23 2014

Melodic Rock that feels like its floating effortlessly on soft gold cushions: ‘Sonic Station’ certainly knows a Melody, and if you like to Rock lightly with that effortless West Coast vibe this is one to make you raise an eyebrow in appreciation.

Opening track ‘Amelia’ inhabits that territory that some may find too light, but which others will find just about right: it’s lush, luxuriant without any sharp of rough edges, that’s not to say it doesn’t have drive; just that the driver you feel would be sat on something extremely comfortable.

And that essentially is the vibe of the album, cool, sophisticated, elegant and incessantly catchy from the smooth rock rhythms and soft as clouds backing vocals of ‘Catch Me If You Can’ through the keyboard-laden balladry of the majestic ‘Fool For Your Love’ and the swagger of the insanely catchy ‘Half of my Heart’ to the classy closing pair, the plaintive ‘Last Goodbye’ and the searching ‘Hide and Seek’.

You may well file this under easy listening, but its easy listening that gives that particular label a very good name indeed. This is a beautiful album, with some great vocals by both Johan Boding and Marika Willstedt and fine musicianship throughout.
