SISTER SIN BLACK LOTUS REVIEW 2014

SISTER SIN - BLACK LOTUS

VICTORY RECORDS

OCTOBER 28 2014

You’ve got to love Sister Sin for what they do – great hard heavy metal with spinechilling female vocals and plenty of thunder. They do it like they used to – without thought for latest fads or trends, just putting out some great rock and roll. This is primal music, music that makes you want to bang your head and it’s damn good.

At just nine tracks ‘Black Lotus’ also gets to the point and that’s a huge part of the appeal of bands like Sister Sin, there’s no bullshit just Metal. Take a listen to first single ‘Chaos Royale’ and tell me that this doesn’t get the blood racing in the way old school Metal always did. There’s Metal here, a dose of Sleaze and heaps of attitude to fuel the majestic melodies and sheer power. Whilst previous albums also had a touch of harder-edged Skid Row album number five sounds like a band who has finally grasped a real sound all of their own. There‘s still echoes of course of your Metal legends but somehow here it all comes together.

Elsewhere there’s no real filler in sight. Sur some tracks will grab you harder by the balls but everything here deserves its pace. At the time of writing our favourite tracks were the frenetic opener ‘Food For Worms’ for its ‘get on the horse and ride till dawn’ attitude; the simple power of the insistent ‘Desert Queen; and the fire in the belly that ‘Ruled by None’ instils. Plunge the needle anywhere though and you will come up gasping for air. This is Sister Sin’s masterpiece and you need to take a ride.

Now wipe off the sweat, raise that beer and let’s see those fists in the air!
