SAREA THIS IS NOT GOODBYE REVIEW 2014

SAREA - THIS IS NOT GOODBYE

DOOLITTLE GROUP

OCTOBER 10 2014

Sarea from Sweden delivers a nice slice of Melodic Metalcore-flavoured Metal with plenty of energy and a touch of aggression – it’s a great mix. If you loved their 2011 debut ‘Alive’ then ‘This is Not Goodbye’ three years on shows a nice progression – in short the songs are just better…

Album opener ‘Conform With Me’ starts with what sounds like distant pilot’s voices before a hard Metallic melody and soaring clean vocals before a dirty vocal underscores them.  There are elements of everything here from Trash Metal, Symphonic Metal, Metalcore and Modern Metal, but somehow the stew comes together.

Once ‘The Void’ hits you realise that the Metalcore has come to the fore – it’s a great song that grabs you by the balls and drags you along, along the way throwing up comparisons with bands like Killswitch Engage, Asking Alexandria and Bring Me the Horizon amongst others.

The rest of the album of course is equally intriguing but very much Metalcore and it’s the single ‘Downfall’ that really hits hardest – both in riffage and also in sheer power.  If you want to know what the band sounds like at its best then this should be your first stop.  On a consistently good album the one regret is that Sarea don’t push the boundaries just a little, sure songs like ‘Egoblivion’ hit the ‘kill’ button but at the end of the day no matter how good ‘This is Not Goodbye’ is. It’s hard to see a progression for the sound. Maybe they don’t need to is the most likely answer as if you love your Metalcore I can see you not being able to put this one down.
