ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL DETROIT MI JULY 17 2014

The seventh annual “Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festvial”

DETROIT, DTE ENERGY MUSIC THEATRE USA

JULY 17 2014

The seventh annual “Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festvial”, made its usual stop in Detroit at DTE last Thursday night and The RockPit was there for the entire experience once again.

The Mayhem lineup has yet to disappoint with some of the largest headliners in metal year after year.  The Victory Records Stage is the fourth stage to be added to the event, featuring bands specifically from their label. Most notable mentions there, being Islanders and mayhem veterans Emmure who always attract a massively enthusiastic crowd.

The Coldcock American Herbal Whiskey Stage was also packed with an incredible line up. Opening up the stage was Michigan’s’ own King 810 followed by another huge fan favorite, Texas Hippie Coalition both on their first Mayhem tour. THC is amassing a large following within the last year with their latest release “Ride On’. We had a chance to sit and chat with Cord and John from THC about their first Mayhem experience and they couldn’t be happier with the experience.

Mushroomhead, Miss May I, Suicide Silence and Cannibal Corpse finished off the line up on the third stage. Miss May I and Suicide Silence had the crowd in a fanatical state with incredibly enthusiastic performances as always.

The Headbang for the Highway, Sumerian stage line up included, Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya, Upon a Burning Body and probably the biggest hit of the entire Mayhem festival, Bodycount featuring Ice-T.  “Manslaughter” is the fifth album released by Bodycount with Sumerian Records, (the first release since ’05). On May 19, 2014, the album's first single "Talk Shit, Get Shot" was released. On May 21, 2014, the music video was released for "Talk Shit, Get Shot". What an incredible performance and they crowd was overjoyed to be in the presence of a band that introduced something different so many years ago.  It was astounding to watch lead guitarist Ernie C play as if his guitar is an extension of his body. The entire band played with passion.

Mainstage acts this year included Asking Alexandria, Trivium, Korn and headliners Avenged Sevenfold.
We had a chance to chat with Korn drummer, Ray Luzier backstage. Check back for the interview to hear about the reunion with Brian “Head” Welch and how his biggest pet peeve is when other bands are disrespectful towards fans.
