RED TIDE RISING - THE RISING

SELF-RELEASED

RELEASED 2014

Denver’s Red Tide Rising is a band on the up, and a band starting to get a lot of attention with their blend of Gothic-tinged mildly Progressive Modern Metal. After an opening instrumental interlude ‘2:13’ is a mid-tempo rocker that says a lot about the band – it’s probably also one of the best tracks here.

Overall though this is an album that doesn’t quite take us there – there are some great moments – like the aggressive opening to ‘Shadows’ but the vocals throughout are rather passionless and brooding, something that I’m sure will work for some though. When it works, it works well though, like on our standout ‘We Are the Hunted’ which benefits from the extra pace in the verses, but on tracks it just doesn’t get there like on the lifeless ‘Scars’.

Our standouts include the band anthem ‘The Rising’ and the slow-burn (a recurring musical theme) of the wonderful ‘Cold’ which is perhaps our pick of the bunch and shows all that this band might be.
