LIONS OF THE SOUTH - CHRONICLES OF AGGRESSION

LIONS OF THE SOUTH

JAN 1 2014

At nine, or eight tracks long, (depending on how you view short instrumental intros) Lions of the South don’t exactly get to the point quickly opening with instrumental ‘Awakening’ before ‘Vicious Cycle’ kicks in. It’s nice loud, aggressive and brash Heavy Metal that leans towards Thrash if it leans anywhere, but there’s more to it than that.

If you can appreciate the vocals, which don’t quite do it for me, then this is a solid album. There is some great bass, and nice heavy guitar sound and some at times inspired drumming: and the songs, whilst never disappointing are a mixed bag of great generic Metal and the rather inspired.

In the former category we’d place songs like ‘In Your Hands’ which is something any Metalhead would love, but it’s the more interesting numbers like ‘A Call to Act’ with its nice technical riffs and ‘Countdown’ which surprisingly adds a touch of the blues to close the album that stand out most.

As we said, this is solid, and in places shines enough to have you wondering what comes next?
