ICE NINE KILLS - THE PREDATOR BECOMES THE PREY

SHOCK RECORDS

OUT NOW (2014)

Returning for their third album Boston Post-Hardcore outfit Ice Nine Kills have managed to create an album that melds huge melodies with all the aggression you mght expect from the genre. With some fine guitar and killer dual vocals the band at best ensnares you and once they have you in their clutches just won’t let go, at worst they just sound like everyone else ploughing this particular field.

If you’re looking for a taste of the album opening track “The Power in Belief” is as good a place as any to start but in truth you can start anywhere – “The Coffin is Moving” and “Product of Hate” both tick our boxes, but it’s the tracks “Let’s Bury The Hatchet…” and “The Fastest Way to a Girls Heart is Through the Ribcage” that will divide opinion. The former is pretty predictable play at the genre mainstream and is pretty much by-numbers, but the latter is where the real cream is! A dark vampiric ditty that shows a sense of humour.

Taking Ice Nine Kills at face value you might think there’s more style than substance but that depends on if you take the bulk of the lyrical content as pretentious of humorous. The best track, and the one that may change your mind is the uplifting ‘My Life In Two’ which is where we’d like the band to be next time round.
