H.E.A.T. - LIVE IN LONDON

earMUSIC

FEBRUARY 25 2015

The sure sign of the evolution and confidence of a band is sometimes marked by when they decide to put out their first live offering, although these days where the ‘live album’ fits in the scheme of things is anyone’s guess! Fans of course will love albums by their favourite bands but there’s such enormous variety these days: from bootlegs, to soundboard recordings, instantly available live recordings and official releases that it’s just as easy to say why bother?

H.E.A.T. ‘Live in London’ is the answer to that question – in that it not only takes the listener right to the front row, but it confirms what we’ve been thinking for a while – these guys really do have a catalogue that stands up in all weathers.

So for those of you, like us, who haven’t seen the band ‘live’ this is a great indication of why you should do – the set may be sparse of real interaction (barring a nice sing-along – we won’t spoil it but fans will probably guess), but hell that ‘let the music do the talking’ attitude is fine by us.

If you are still not convinced then the recent  ‘Tearing Down the Walls’ album is something  you must check out – rating already as one of the front-runners for album of the year this year. Here “A Shot At Redempetion” and “Mannequin Show” from that album lead the charge amongst the already established classics: “1000 Miles”, “It’s All About Tonight” and “Breaking The Silence”.

Sadly the album is not an entire set and whilst it’s largely recorded live at The Garage in London (on May 16 2014) there is some tinkering due to the fact that at one point the mics went on the night! (and who wants to listen to that!). Production thankfully is spot on with Tobias Lindell doing a great job at capturing the atmosphere, even if on occasion the crowd does sound more stadium-sized!  Thankfully it’s all about enjoyment and this delivers!
Proof that there are bands out there today that can deliver timeless rock music…
