FM FUTURAMA REVIEW 2014

FM - FUTURAMA (EP)

SELF RELEASED

31 MARCH 2014

We love value for money and this EP is just that, comprised as it is of 4 brand new songs and 6 live cuts plus a remix of one of the new numbers.

Whilst we might dismiss title track ‘Futurama’ itself – being both short and instrumental, the three new tracks that remain really are something special. Both ‘Cold Hearted’ and “Bad That’s Good in You’ are top notch sing-along AOR anthems that will delight existing fans and surely shake up some of the genre’s young guns!

It’s ‘Preying on My Mind’ that you really need to hear though – a majestic, organ-drenched acoustic ballad which showcases the sort of song FM always handled with such majesty. It’s probably one of our favourites of the year so far in a genre that at the moment is producing a lot of fine music.

The ‘live’ tracks really though are the icing on the cake here: recorded on the recent Rockville tours ‘Tough Love’ and ‘All Or Nothing’ supply the rock, whilst ‘Closer to Heaven’ supplies te lighter moment, before we are back in solid AOR territory again for the wonderful ‘Crosstown Train’. Th EP ends with another brace of winners – the simply stunning ‘Story of My Life’ and the harder ‘Breathe Fire’, before we close out with a remix of ‘Cold Hearted’ that doesn’t really eclipse the original.

It’s great to see FM back and producing new music at such a rate after a decent absence from the scene. Catch them live if you can in this their 30th Anniversary year. And to think the one and only time I saw them was as a kid back in 1986 when they were just two year olds!
