Echo Us II XII A Priori Memoriae Review 2014

ECHO US - II:XII A PRIORI MEMORIAE

DUST ON THE TRACKS

SEPTEMBER 15 2014

Coming across like a Dream Theater-aware early Genesis, Echo us is a wonderful diversion into a soundscape of progressive echoes, drenched in folk, classical and pop sensibilities, all delicately strung together with musical precision and an artist’s eye.

‘II:XII A Priori Memoriae’ is the sort of album that needs time but the investment is worth it wherever you start your journey:  from the more straightforward propositions of songs like ‘Solum Vobis’ to the journey that is closing track ‘Viseretque’.

Music like this doesn’t come around to often and the press names two albums as reference points – Jon Anderson’s ‘Olias of Sunhillow!’ and Mike Oldfield’s ‘Ommadawn’ and for once both of those give a sense of the scope here.

Ethan Matthews has produced has most complete work to date: a progressive masterpiece.
