CORRUPTION DEVILS SHARE REVIEW 2014

CORRUPTION - DEVIL'S SHARE

METAL MIND PRODUCTIONS

JUNE 2014

Corruption’s third album ‘devil’s Share’ is a real heady mix of inflammable blues and Stoner strut. Right from the off and ‘Hang ’n’ Over’ you can tell that Corruption play by the same rules as bands like Motorhead – and just get right to the Rock ‘n’ Roll with as little fuss as possible. It’s an attitude a few bands out there have, but few have the ability to pull it as well as Corruption do here.

So after the all-out Rock opener, it’s ‘This Is the Day’ that blasts next out of the speakers, all riff-heavy and with far more of a ‘Stoner’ feel : and that for us at least is a huge plus – this isn’t just another band on another Stoner trip, it’s a band that manages to meld Heavy Metal with Blues in a way that isn’t as mellow as say ‘Blues Pills’ and isn’t as out and out Retro as so many others: instead what you get is an honest dose of Rock and Roll.

Take a listen to the groove they create on ‘Story of Things that Should Not Be’ and listen to that guitar wail; or maybe the mess of harp-fuelled Blues that is ‘Traveller Blues’; then get down to the straight Stoner groove of ‘Grime Whorehouse’ or ‘Inspire’ any one of which should grab you.  No? Then there’s bound to be something else to take your fancy whether it’s the Soundgarden/Blues of the wonderful ‘Regression’ or the tongue in cheek Steppenwolf cover re-christened ‘Born to be Zakk Wylde’, which also samples Dio's 'Holy Diver' – it’s all here and you’ll be partying till dawn…

This is a great album by a great band and well worth checking out.
