CHROME DIVISION - INFERNAL ROCK ETERNAL

NUCLEAR BLAST

JANUARY 17 2014

Wow, I really didn’t expect such a fine sleazy slab of dirty rock and roll from Dimmu Borgir’s Shagrath, but here it is belting out of the speakers shattering everyone’s Sunday peace and I love it! It’s even got cowbell!

Starting off with ‘Endless Nights’ a low-down dirty modern rocker, there’s a quick shift in gears for ‘(She’s) Hot Tonight’ – which is some fine tasting sleaze rock. Already, if you’re familiar with the band you might be a little confused as sonically this is a world away already from the band’s last outing ‘3rd Round Knockout’. And therein lies part of the story with some heavy duty line-up changes you’d be forgiven for thinking that this is a different band.

The other end of the musical palate are songs like the Stoner-friendly “Lady of Perpetual Sorrow’ (No relation to ‘Man of…’ musically) which has a deep soulful groove and is completely at odds with tracks like the sleazier ‘No Bet For Free’. Both work but at times you’re not sure which way the band will turn.

The psychedelic ‘The Moonshine Years’ again takes us into more experimental territory while ‘Mistress in Madness’ is fired-up sleaze Metal.  This is self-proclaimed ‘Domesday Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and four albums in we’ve taken a step further than ‘3rd Round…’ and at times it never sounded better. A perfect blend of dirty rock, stoner rock and a smear of dirty Metal, but one that still leaves you wondering both who will be in the band and what they will sound like next time around!
