CARBON BLACK PRINCIPIUM REVIEW 2014

CARBON BLACK - PRINCIPIUM

Independent

MARCH 28 2014

Wow this was unexpected! Local Australian Metal band Carbon Black may well have been a complete unknown before this dropped on our desk but after a few plays this 5/6 track EP has you reaching for big names like Pantera!

If you like your Metal on the heavy side of heavy then this should really interest you with riffs as big as mountains and guitars set to ‘kill’ it’s an EP that is top shelf Metal fury with only one real drawback – that it’s an EP!

Opening with the short intro piece ‘Principium Ex Mortis’ (we hate those intro tracks enough on albums) the EP really starts off like it means to go on with ‘Mourning’ which has all the power and subdued aggression we’d hoped for. ‘Blood and Sacrifice’ that follows with a stuttering riff is even more in your face and ups the aggression to the point you can almost feel the spit on your face in the front row.

‘Fade Away’ doesn’t let the foot off your throat but manges to do so more slowly on the back of a really heavy and satisfying groove. Next up and our highlight at least is ‘Deceive.Deny’ which takes the off the chain groove Metal template and adds a traditional Metal vocal – it’s a great way to please everyone and I’ll bet a helluva live song! All we are left with is closer ‘Obey’ which starts with the biggest scream here and takes a little from early thrash before chewing you up and spitting you out.

Carbon Black is a band that should get in front of as many people as they can over the next few months and with this release the interest should be high indeed. We just can’t wait for the full-length it might well cement their name in the story of Metal.
