Death metal legends Cannibal Corpse returned to Perth on Tuesday night to kick off another Australian tour, this time in support of their latest gore infested album "A Skeletal Domain" which made it's album debut in Perth as a world exclusive.

The kings of extreme metal made no fancy entrance as they came on stage to tear the crowd apart and show why they are still one of the best in the business. Earlier in the evening Italian tech death metallers Hour Of Penance warmed the crowd up with their skillful brand of technical prowess and groove with an opening act that won the crowd over by the end of their set. A far different band than the headliners, they showed what death metal has achieved over the years in the genre's evolution. A nice start to the night for sure!

Cannibal Corpse came out not long after and went straight to business. The crowd was a decent size for the night but was fairly tame in the beginning of the show, despite the band quickly launching into old favorites "Fucked With A Knife" and "Pounded Into Dust" early in the set, a personal favorite of mine. Frontman Corpsegrinder Fisher eyed the crowd and took the opportunity to get the crowd riled up in the humerous fashion that he is well known for.

"Addicted To Vaginal Skin" finally got the crowd moving and the show went into overdrive, the band speeding along with ferocity and brutality. The set was mixed with a lot of old school hits and a fair amount of the newer stuff including a couple of new tracks from the new album "Sadistic Embodiment", a fast and catchy tune that is a fairly good representation of the new album and "Icepick Lobotomy", a more blended song of speed and heavy mid-tempo.

The crowd loved the new tracks as the band proceeded into old school track "I Cum Blood" where the crowd was whipped into a frenzy upon it's brutal announcement into the set. The band proceeded into more tracks representing their long list of work including "Demented Aggression" and "Dormant Bodies Bursting" and many more, relentless and barely with many breaks inbetween.

Fan favorite "Hammer Smashed Face" made it's way onto the set near the end while a massive moshpit went into overdrive before the band piled into one more song to end the night "Make Them Suffer". It took a while for the show to be the brutal Cannibal Corpse gig that is always expected but once it clicked, it was a damn good one. The band always come to Australia every few years so we wait patiently for their return for more brutal headbanging.
