CALIBAN GHOST EMPIRE ALBUM REVIEW 2014

CALIBAN - GHOST EMPIRE

CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

JANUARY 27 2014

There’s more Metalcore for you here but this one really stands out. Germany’s Caliban has somehow managed to make a Metalcore album that actually sound like it’s not ‘by numbers’.

I always see my job at the Rockpit as bringing to your attention some of the heavy more modern stuff that our other writers either don’t fully appreciate or understand so it’s great to be able to highlight a band like this who manage to take a genre that is very popular and put out an album that is ner the top of that genre. It’s all opinions of course but I cannot see Metalcore fans who know their stuff not falling for this one!

Though they have been around for a very long time, what you most appreciate here is the commitment and power Caliban has managed to harness. Opening with the rock solid ‘King’ things get even better with ‘Chaos Creation’ before we get a real turn sonically for ‘Devil’s Night’ which has a strong melodic wash before we’re back to the assault. It’s the standout for me.

If you thought Metalcore was flailing this rekindles your belief.
