BABYLON A.D. - THE LOST SESSIONS FRESNO CA

SELF RELEASED

RELEASED 2014

Always one of my favourite late eighties Hard Rock bands it’s hard to find fault with anything these guys put out, and after a collection of old tracks eight years ago now in the form of ‘In the Beginning’ it looked like the final chapter had been written.

Fortunately speaking with Ron Freschi a few years back I always knew there was something more out there and so when singer Derek Davis found some old tapes in a trunk this is the result – three never before heard tracks that never made it onto album and a remix of the evergreen ‘Bang Go The Bells’ from that classic first album.

Of the new-found tracks ‘Love Blind’ which opens the EP is pick of the bunch here with its stuttering riff, it’s a beautifully constructed song that surely should have made the cut somewhere! (Blast those pesky record labels rejecting it first time round!) ‘While America Sleeps’ is similarly impressive:  sounding like it would fit beautifully on 1992’s excellent ‘Nothing’s Sacred’; while ‘Love is a Mystery’ takes the mood down to deliver the sort of quality ballad that Babylon A.D. were always so adept at, and has a slight touch of Cinderella about it .

The remix of hit single ‘Bang Goes the Bells’ (originally released in 2010) is a welcome bonus and adds to the original. Now if only these guys could look in those other boxes or better still pput out a new one!
