ANUBIS GATE HORIZONS REVIEW 2014

ANUBIS GATE - HORIZONS

NIGHTMARE RECORDS

APRIL 15 2014

Progressive Modern Metal from Denmark that sounds fresh and exciting. From the sweet strains of the complex ‘Destined to Remember’ through the searching riffage of ‘Never Like This (A Dream)’ six albums in this is epic songwriting, mature and wonderfully produced, for those that like their modern Metal  with a lighter touch but still plenty of teeth.

The crushing, stuttering riff to ‘Hear My Call’ breaks into a lighter passage with acoustic meanderings which highlight some great vocals as do tracks like ‘Airways’ and ‘Breach of Faith’. This is an album of lush complexity with plenty of highlights. If we had to single out a few they might well be the epic ‘Dream Within a Dream’ which has more layers than an onion and more twists and turns than a maze: it’s one of the best compositions we’ve heard all year. Elsewhere ‘Airways’ starts almost folky before letting the song free of its shackles.

This is one to inspire you.
