LIVE REVIEW PAUL LAINE at the CHERRY BAR DECEMBER 2013

PAUL LAINE LIVE AT THE CHERRY BAR MELBOURNE

AUSTRALIAN EAST COAST TOUR - DECEMBER 3 2013

Paul Laine blew the roof off the Cherry Bar in Melbourne on his first ever trip downunder. . A good crowd of melodic rockers packed the Cherry on a beautiful Tuesday night to witness one of the best live gigs  i’ve ever seen.

Paul started things off with the opening track from his debut album Stick It In Your Ear titled One Step Over The Line.....and boy can this man sing! It wasn’t too long before we heard the Danger Danger track Beat The Bullet before things slowed down with one of the best ballads from the era Is It Love. The band sounded great – backed by local boys The Radio Sun who played the house down and added great backing vocals. We then got three more Danger Danger tracks in a row – the rocking Grind from the Great Gildersleeves album and two songs from the debut Under The Gun and Don’t Walk Away . Paul had the crowd singing along to the Shugaazer track Beautiful and told stories from back in the day reminiscing the glory days of Whitesnake and Dio.  With intro sirens blazing a highlight was definitely We Are The Young and the down tuned Sick Little Twisted Mind and Dead Drunk and Wasted.

Paul’s voice was in fine form on the ballads Don’t Break My Heart Again and I Still Think About You but it was songs like Goin, Goin, Gone and Going All The Way that had the Danger Danger faithful super impressed. Cold Play’s Fix you was a surprise and AC/DC’s Highway To Hell was certainly an ‘on the spot’ jam session with Paul answering a request from the crowd. Naughty Naughty and Bang Bang were big crowd favourites but it was Dorianna that had the whole venue singing. It was easy to see Paul was so happy to be playing live in Australia – as he brought out some  Aussie lingo he’d picked up on the trip, again bringing a smile to everyone’s face  in attendance. Both supports on the night Kill Shott and The Radio Sun did a great job warming up the crowd with particular kudos to The Radio Sun who showcased some great songs and outstanding vocal harmonies! And for those of you who didn’t attend....you missed one of the best rock gigs ever! Let’s hope we see Paul Laine back in Australia sooner rather than later.

The Radio Sun did such a fine job as Paul’s backing band that they will be his band at the Melodic Rock Fest held in Chicago USA October 2014.
