ICEHOUSE

LIVE AT THE PERTH ZOO

5 APRIL 2013

With much anticipation, we arrived at the zoo just in time to hear the MC, announce that Mark Seymour (ex Hunters & Collectors) and The Undertow were coming to the stage. As the opening riffs of “Counting on You” began to play, the crowd settled down and the magic began.

Marks voice was in fine form from the very first note to the last, and the audience visibly started to toe tap as the set played on. The set list was a nostalgic and stirring walk through familiar hits and some sure to be new favourites, which included, Counting on You, River Runs Dry, Arms Around Me, Lorevei, Castlemaine, Cry In the Rain, Caroline Tears, Red Lady, Say Goodbye, Beside You, Holy Grail, and Westgate.

Mark Seymour was both engaging and entertaining, to the last note played on his guitar, and impressed with his crowd interaction throughout the performance.  It was almost sorrowful when Mark and the band left the stage having entertained the appreciative crowd far beyond expectations, and proving to be an excellent support for the headliners – Icehouse!

Now after some light refreshments, the lights went down and the back screen lit up. The opening bars of “Icehouse” the song, began to play out across the audience, with that 80’s synthesised sound that every person in the crowd instantly recognised.

As firstly members of the band took their places on stage, the light show onscreen was both captivating and teasing the crowd until Iva Davies burst onto the stage, playing and singing with such energy and obvious passion, the audience was completely mesmerised by the fabulous performance taking place up on stage.

As one hit led into another, the crowd began to sing and dance along with ICEHOUSE as they were transported back on a tour of some of the most recognisable Aussie hits from the 80’s and 90’s.

The set included ICEHOUSE, WE CAN GET TOGETHER, UNIFORM, CRAZY, HEY, LITTLE GIRL, ELECTRIC BLUE, BOULEVARD, MAN OF COLOURS, DON’T BELEIVE ANY MORE, LOVE IN MOTION, CROSS THE BORDER, the iconic GREAT SOUTHERN LAND and CAN’T HELP MYSELF.

Iva Davies was a master of showmanship and kept drawing the crowd into his performance, and at times the energy on stage was simply electric. From the masterful guitar riffs, the haunting melodic keyboards and at times galloping drum beats, the show couldn’t be faulted, and the crowd were not shy in showing their appreciation for the outstanding performance that never waivered in energy and definitely delivered all that could have been hoped for.

Musically between Mark Seymour and ICEHOUSE it was simply one of the most entertaining and enjoyable evenings seen at a Perth Zoo Nocturnal Concert, and if you get the chance to see these outstanding musicians performing in the future – Just do it. Perhaps then you too will have the fantastic memories of an evening such as that which was shared by so many fans at The Perth Zoo on April 5th 2013!
