THUNDER

THE MANCUNIAN CANDIDATE

2013

IS IT THAT TIME AGAIN?

I saw Thunder’s first ever Christmas show at Nottingham Rock City – a show that has since become an annual tradition for fans. While the band may not be recording anymore and their outings on the road confined to the bigger shows there is still the annual event to look forward to. Last year’s show was the first outside of Rock City and as Danny told me earlier in the year ‘we simply outgrew the venue’. This show from Manchester’s Academy on December 21st last year is exactly what a fan would expect – a touch of the old, a few of the new, some fine covers and a damn good time to be had by all.

This year sees Danny in fine voice and the band equally magnificent. There’s some great banter, some great songs but perhaps not quite as strong a set as we’ve come to expect, and some of the real favorites are absent. The one thing I can’t forgive anyone is a cover of Crowded House, let’s hope that’s a one off shall we?

Pick your own highlights this year as the rest is magnificent including the Festive closer Wizard’s ‘I Wish It Could be Xmas Every Day’. Enjoy and make plans to get there this year!
