THE LAST TEN SECONDS OF LIFE

INVIVO

2013

KICK-ASS DEATH METAL

Growls, relentless guitars, kick-ass drums and driving bass: ‘Invivo’ is right in your face Death Metal from the start. Despite the relentless onslaught though there’s a conviction to the approach that makes you think of much more venerable bands. It’s an angry record, and straight to the point, with some cool breakdowns and low guttural vocals, that also set it aside from the sizeable pack.

On an album with a variety of styles at play you feel that the band is still to some extent finding their way, but there’s enough here to suggest they are headed in the right direction. Songs like ‘A Dime a Dozen’ stand out for all the right reasons: harnessing the agression that seeps through the grooves and the nu-Metal almost of tracks like ‘Numbskull’ work well. Standouts though are probably the interesting different ‘The Face’ and the powerful ‘Haste Makes Waste’.

Not a bad track on here, so we suggest listening through, but on the other hand nothing to really lift the roof either. The best thing about the album is perhaps the variety and the willingness to try a few different things in the mix.
