WAITING TO...HEAR MORE

As a big fan of Mother Love Bone, that pre-Pearl Jam band from Seattle I can’t help but associate the name of this band with them, whether or not there is any connection I’m unsure.

Stardog Champion is a lean, sweet tasting, modern rock band that in the five tracks of this EP suggest that they might amount to something far more than also-rans. ‘Aphrodite’ is probably all you will need to hear if you know the pedigree which combines two ex-members of Breaking Benjamin with the charismatic ex-vocalist of Lifer and The Drama Club.

There certainly seems to be the trace of Andrew Wood’s band in the background but maybe that’s wishful thinking, what there certainly is, is some great song-writing. This band seems hungrier than most and whilst the lead track does turn out to be the standout it’s a close call. ‘Nothing To Lose’ has a Stone Temple Pilots type swagger to it and continues the rock and roll ride... So far so good.

Both ‘When We Fall’ and ‘House of Cards’ that follow are better than average modern pop rock songs, particularly the former which showcases some searching vocals. The only problem is by the time final cut ‘The Switch’, a sweeping modern rock ballad, kicks in all you are left is wanting to hear more.
I tip these guys for bigger things, they already sound great.
