STUNNING GROOVE METAL

This is good, very good. Stoner rock with heart and soul is difficult to pull off as bands so often get caught up in the dynamics of the rue book, but these guys manage to inject an energy, individuality and purpose to a genre that seems to have every man and his dog jumping onto at the moment. Case in point is the opening track ‘Dropping like files’ which adds a lilting keyboard interlude and hippyesque vibe to the standard template. It’s more than enough to keep you listening.

‘Hold Me To The Sky’ that follows is perhaps even better and even more of a departure with its deep groove - it’s like a blues rock track without the blues (not that that makes any sense until you hear the keys followed by the guitar solo). It’s that individuality that makes this so worthwhile, and with tracks like the awesome ‘Freedom’ (great keys), ‘Blackmoon Morning’ (very Soundgarden and the best vocal performance here) and the eloquent ‘Lovers Leap’ this could be one of the best releases of its kind of the year. Add the power of ‘Dealer’ which borrows just a little from 'Spoonful' and you have a stunning record.

If you love your Soundgarden, modern Southern Rock, vintage (or based on the latest soon to be released ‘Last Patrol’) Monster Magnet this is a band that will be making waves you’ll enjoy rolling over you.
