SACRED STEEL

THE BLOODSHED SUMMONING

2013

A NEW SHINING LIGHT

Power/Speed Metal from Germany that sounds a little tired to these ears but does have its redeeming features. Sacred Steel seem to suffer from still not quite nailing where they want to be and while there are obvious influences of bands like Grave Digger and the pomp of Power Metal there’s more of a modern feel creeping in here rather than  a look over the shoulder and maybe that’s the turning point?

For fans of the genre this might be an enjoyable ride, and don’t get me wrong there are glimmers of great songs here. We start out well with the likes of the aggressive ‘Storm of Fire’ and tracks like the more experimental ‘Journey Into Purgatory’ really catch the ear. And while it’s the heavier stuff that seems to indicate a feeling of kinship to Trash Metal like ‘Perversions of the scriptures’ you can’t help but feel this is an album that asks you to have a listen and let the band know what you think as they seem a little undecided on their direction.
