KICK ASS METAL

Female-fronted Metal bands aren’t the novelty they used to be and so these days it’s the quality that speaks, just like any band. Zoltar Speaks is quality. Refreshingly heavy and with a growing following, this Somerset-based five piece seems to have all the boxes ticked and the added bonus of coming from an English county more famous for its cider and agriculture than its world class Metal though that may be about to change.

As far as the album goes what stands out most is both the energy and the seeming willingness to try enough to stand out from what is let’s face it an ever-growing crowd. This is great well-considered Metal with big hooks and great vocals, both clean and dirty at times.  Vocalist Louise Body has the chops to engage you and the band is pleasingly tight without being clinical.   Packed with riffs forged somewhere between Slayer and Megadeth songs like ‘See You in Another Life’ and ‘Last Man Standing’ may well be the staple diet here, but good as they are they are overshadowed by epics like ‘Face the Claymore’ and final song ‘Treatment’ which hopefully heralds the way forward – it’s the best song here by a distance.

For a debut, this kicks ass, let’s just hope they get the breaks to get in front of a wider audience.
