TURN OUT THE LIGHTS AND OPEN YOUR IMAGINATION...

You really should buy this DVD. If ever you wanted to see a band in all their pomp and glory captured at a point in time that seems awfully like their peak, then you’d be hard pushed to find any better representation of any band than this live show by Nightwish at Wacken.

If you love the music, of course, then this will be an easy sell: 16 tracks spanning Nightwish’ career to date with the truly awesome Floor Jansen front and centre. In Floor the band finally it seems, has found a front-woman who really fits the bill. Musically this is pretty much what you get live – a group of fine musicians who don’t put a foot wrong and manage to capture the majesty of the recorded material in the live arena. Not only that they inject both passion and humour at points too.

Here down-under, only ever having seen Nightwish in relatively small clubs, the visual spectacular that is a full-blown Nightwish show, makes you green with envy of our Northern European cousins! It’s the sort of show that makes you appreciate how inspiring these giant festivals can be.

If you want more than just a straight concert DVD then don’t worry. As the press reads: “The second disc consists of 120-minute tour documentary ‘Please Learn The Setlist in 48 Hours’, with no short (sic) of drama or overall madness”. On top of that there’s a Nightwish Table Hockey tournament and two music clips: ‘I want my tears back’ (Live at Hartwall Arena) and ‘Ghost Love Score’ (Live in Buenos Aires)”.

If you love the band, as I said, it’s hard to pick favourites so I will: try the obvious “Wish I had an Angel” and the perhaps less so “Bless The Child” (which is also Marco’s favourite here). Immerse yourself, grab a beverage of your choice and turn out the lights and open the imagination…
