ATTITUDE...

Now this is an album that might just reach out and grab you by the balls and squeeze. Imagine that Mike Monroe of the Hanoi Rocks had a bit of Ian Astbury about him, throw in some hard rock riffs circa The Cult’s Electric, then some Ramones swagger, a pinch of the New York Dolls and the essence of Iggy, The Clash and the MC5 and you have a pretty interesting and heady concoction.

Grand Reserva sound like they just don’t care, and believe me that takes some pulling off to do it convincingly. What it’s resulted in is a very fine album that sounds like it was thrown together, or scraped together from the Streets, it smells of day old booze and cigarettes, and that’s a sound few manage to pull off.

Starting the motor with ‘She Runaway’ one of the best tracks here, you are dragged through the album backwards by the hair while you’re pummeled by song after song of glorious Rock and Roll. Sure there are a few that perhaps don’t excite you as much as others, but on the whole this is a fine album that stands up well to repeat listens.

Some of our particular favorites include the driving rock of ‘American Me’; the seventies-flavored stomp of ‘Bring Me the Thunder’; the Stooges sounding ‘Let’s Ride’ and ‘Paradise to Die for’ which proves that all the best songs sound like you’ve heard them before.

If you could bottle attitude, you’d want to bottle what these guys have. If you like it nice and sleazy there’s a new kid on the block, a little leaner and meaner than the rest. Whether 48 Laws is a reference to Robert Green’s bestseller 48 Laws of Power we have no idea, and to be honest we don’t care! Pour yourself a large glass and enjoy!
