REBORN

Bloodgood is a Christian Metal band who last released anything 22 years ago. I’d never heard of them back then and so was rather intrigued as to why a new release by a bunch of old Christian rockers who have been out of the loop for so long would be worth a listen – I mean surely this is just an attempt to ride on the rebirth of Stryper right?

This is to be honest an OK album, at times devilishly (I had to use that word) melodic like on the rather subtly-titled opener ‘Lamb of God’ (which isn’t about that rather well known Metal band). It and ‘Pray’ and ‘Man in the Middle’ are all pretty much cut from the same cloth. The band does venture into heavier waters occasionally with tracks like ‘Run the Race’ and ‘Child of Earth’. Aside from those two paths we also get a passable ballad in ‘Father Father’; something faster with ‘Bread Alone’ (our favourite) and a nice contemplative slower number in the simple but effective ‘Crush Me’.

‘Dangerously Close’ ’is in truth built of pretty solid stuff, maybe sounding a little dated (but I’m first to stress that may not be a bad thing), but a collection of decent songs that should please the Christian rock contingent out there if not actually making them dance in the aisles…
