THE FRESH FACE OF POP METAL

Coming across like the Paramore of Melodic Metal Aria begin ‘Abandon’ with a rousing pop-fused ‘Black Hole’, quickly followed by single ‘On My Own’ the liveliest and catchiest track here. This is to be honest a pretty well written and lively EP, full of energy and performed with authority. Where it falls down is that after those two songs you imagine there’s nothing here you haven’t heard before, thankfully there’s a change of template for ‘The Gambler’ a slow ballad that is just what the EP needed.

Best here though is the strummed ‘You Dug Your Own Grave, Now Lie In It’ which rattles along nicely. This is definitely an EP striking out at a younger audience, but if you don’t rule out the marriage of pop and Metal this is one of the more interesting releases of the year that hints at good things to come.
