BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN

REO Speedwagon may be named after a cool old truck but they also release one of the worst titled live albums of all time back in the day, namely ‘You can tune a piano but you can’t tuna fish’. There I said it, it really is true too. Staggeringly formed in 1967, it wasn’t of course till 1980 with ‘Hi Infidelity’ that they became everyone’s favourite soft rockers. Thanks to a mate’s brother the first I heard was the still cool ‘Nine Lives’ from the year before with ‘Back on the Road Again’ on – a song for me almost on par with ‘More Than a Feeling’ and ‘Hold Your Head Up’. Needless to say I was disappointed with songs like ‘Keep on Loving You’ from the 10 million selling ‘Hi Fidelity’.

Anyway many years later REO are still touring and with a pretty much classic line up. They may be a band that’s 46 years old, but boy do they sound great.

Recorded live at Moondance Jam, a Festival I must get to one day, this is 13 tracks of gold. Of course it’s a greatest hits show, but it’s so slick and so fresh it kicks a lot of recent live recordings we’ve heard into touch.

My personal highlight is of course the version here of ‘Back on the Road Again’ but there’s plenty more here to remind you why you should check out these guys when they hit your town.
