Mad Charlie Mad as a Cut Snake CD Review

MAD CHARLIE

MAD AS A CUT SNAKE EP

2012

MEAN AND MENACING

I don’t know about you but I’d be pretty upset if a band with a name like Mad Charlie didn’t rock, and after a few spins of their new EP I’m happy to say these guys do in spades.

Aurally you get a heady mix of good old fashioned working man’s Aussie rock thrown onto the mix with a bit of Motorhead and snatches of bands like New York’s Biker Rock rebels: Circus of Power and The Sonic Temple era of The Cult (especially on track four: ‘Middle of the Road’).

All in all it’s an EP that delivers up some very catchy blues based heavy rock, it’s raw enough to please your unshaven masses, heavy enough to keep the headbangers happy and the songs are certainly good enough to make you press that repeat button.

Of the tracks on the EP we thought that opener ‘Won’t Give It Up’ was perhaps the song with best kerb-side appeal and catchy enough to have a larger audience take notice, but the rest of the EP rocks just as loud and as hard from the gang vocals and stuttering riff of ‘All This Is’ to the defiant Aussie Rock Anthem and my favourite: ‘No One Gets Out Alive’.

This is a great EP and just the sort of band I have to get out and see live. Give us some more!
