LO!

MONSTRORUM HISTORIA

2013

DIRTY SYDNEY METAL

This is some heavy shit! Starting off with eerie repetition and building slowly till the sound envelops you ‘As Above’ the opening track on ‘Monstrorum Historia’ is full of insistent menace. Three minutes fly by, vocal less before we end with a crash and jump straight into the chugging riff to ‘Bloody Vultures’ and the real mayhem begins.

For those familiar with Lo! You will see this as a continuation of what came before, for those who haven’t heard of this dirty Sydney Metal band, think Mastodon meets Baroness for a VB behind the Leagues Club. This is stirring stuff and very gritty.

Although the first few numbers merely seek to cement the sound, interludes like ‘Haven, Beneath Weeping Willows’ is like a breath of fresh air and a respite from having your head ground into the dirty water.

There are some great moments on here for those  looking for something more than straightforward screaming assault, and both ‘‘Fallen Leaves’ which drops the pace and has altogether more room to breathe just so that it can pummel you twice as hard but half as fast; and the altogether more frenetic ‘Lichtenberg Figures’ which is cut from a deeper groove and twice as hard really stand out here.
Prepare to enter oblivion!
