REFLECTION

2013

ONE TO WATCH

Keen Eyed have a lineage that dates back to 1985 but it’s only in the last few years – recording a demo in 2011 – that these Italians have made any real headway. In 2013 they are ready to show the world what we have been missing.

Hitting out with a potent mix of vintage Metal that immediately brings to mind the genre’s elder statesman, but there’s a depth to the vocals that balance out the Judas- Priest-like riffing. ‘She’s the Devil’ that opens the album proper swirls in the speakers and is one of the real standouts along with ‘Labyrinth’ – two songs that are grounded on some nice well mixed keyboards.

Throw in some solid musicianship, more than competent, and at times, very engaging vocals and you have a solid rock release that while never managing to hit dizzy heights shows a lot of promise. Add a couple of decent ballads to the mix in ‘(You Make Me Feel) I Belong to You’ and ‘Fishing Dreams’ that treads ‘Use Your Illusion Gunners’ territory at points: and which both pack some real emotion and you can’t help but feel this is a band to watch.
