SOLID AS A ROCK MELODY

For years James Christian has been one of my favourite vocalists, there’s such a richness to his voice that you imagine he could sing along to practically anything and find melody and warmth in it. On his third solo album (following on from 1995’s ‘Rude Awakening’ and 2004's ‘Meet The Man’) we find James in fine form. This is easily his best solo work to date.

With a title track that is brimming with light and energy it’s a wonderful way to start an album, though sadly it is also the biggest highlight here, but to be honest it’s really THAT GOOD that you can’t imagine anything surpassing it. The great news is that we get damned close though – the well-paced ‘Believe In Me’ and in particular the key-drenched ‘Sacred Heart’ are both melodic gems.

If there are some Christian fans out there, though, who are hankering after the power and Pomp of House of Lords then they won’t really find it on here as this solo album is a very much lighter affair and at times pure AOR. While that may not be everyone’s cup of tea it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Any potential argument though is dispelled by the sheer quality of the songs.

As a showcase for James’ vocals this works beautifully, and if Melodic Rock was still the force it once was then this would be seriously bothering the charts.

", which allows Christian to hit the vocal heights yet again and the attitude infused "She's All The Rage" hitting home to great effect.

All eleven tracks have true depth to them, convincing from start to finish, with the likes of "Sincerely Yours" or "You're So Bad" combining punchy guitars with uplifting keyboard bursts via shit kicking beats and (obviously) classy vocals.

If lighter Melodic Rock is you thing, this is one you’ll love.
