Growls like the devil and melodies like the softest of melodic rock; in fact you could almost say ‘angelic’. The contrast here is incredible and that will either work for you or it won’t. Part of this album on face value screams at you ‘hardcore’ but in reality that would be a great disservice to a band that are far more complex and interesting.

So at times hardcore at others post-hardcore, progressive, Rush-like, even trash and Black Metal creeps in there which will have the genre hound spinning as this defies description.

For someone never really convinced by Hardcore though this is far more intricate and creative. The approach to tonality and harmonies is at odds with practically everything else here and ‘Open the Gates’ is something that you could imagine Dreamtheatre make sound far less interesting.  So put aside your preconceptions and listen to a track like ‘A Gift Beyond Human Reach’ and tell me that these guys aren’t important.

Awesome but challenging!
