GRRRL POWER

Like an Australian version of the Runaways meets Suzi Quatro meets Josie and the Pussycats (the great cartoon version not the later film version) Diva Demolition is on a two woman mission to bring the fun back to good old fashioned Rock and Roll.

Seeing them live with the likes of Kiss, Motley and Thin Lizzy you may have already picked up a pre-release copy of the album which officially be released on August 2nd. The album collects together the tracks from the Diva Disease EP along with 7 others, some of which you may well have heard before if you are following the band like ‘Roller Girls’ which was my first introduction and is still one of my favourites here.

The album starts off with the best track which also happens to be the title track and from there on in it’s a rollercoaster ride through some damn find tunes, some great attitude and some simple straight Rock and Roll. Don’t expect any epics – the longest song here clocks in at under three and a half minutes, taking that Ramones ethic – if you don’t like this one there’ll be another one along in a minute.

To be honest there are some missteps, but listening with a few others that mainly seems to fall down to personal taste. Tracks like ‘I Like It too Much’; ‘Energy’; ‘Blow Your Hair Back’ and ‘Screw Loose’ though do most for me.

There’s a huge energy here and a lot of desire and when you throw in attitude even though there may be a few rough edges here and there, or the odd song that would have benefitted from a bigger chorus in essence it’s almost there. Girrrl Power may just well be on the way back.
